The subject of
Past Life Regression fascinates me: mainly because I can’t explain
it. What I do know is that it can be an interesting insight into
the issues we are dealing with in the present. The benefits are
different for everyone based on their beliefs. Some clients find it
therapeutic, and some are just curious as to whether they have lived
before.
Often times, the
client will 'recall' events from a past life which serve to shed
light on unexplained behaviours or preferences they have in this
life, such as ailments, phobias, relationship problems, compulsions,
personality traits, self-blame, chronic guilt, and sadness...
resulting in a sense of freedom and liberation from limiting beliefs
or symptoms.
People have often
commented that having past-life regression has reduced or removed
their fear of death.
There is no definitive explanation
for what is uncovered in a Past Life Regression session: but there
are many theories.
Reincarnation:
The belief that the ‘spirit’ is
reborn in subsequent lives in order to correct the errors of its
last time on Earth, and thus learn and evolve. No longer solely
an ancient Eastern central tenant, reincarnation has become a
popular belief amongst New Age movements in order to explain and
gain insight into their current lives. Western cultures are
developing a interest in reincarnation also, and it has been a
common theme in recent films - such as Birth (2004).
Story-telling:
Maybe we’re making it up? There
are many cases of factual evidence arising from sessions which
the client claims to have no conscious knowledge of. But maybe
they have heard these facts and are experiencing source amnesia
(maybe they were in a hypnotic state while watching the history
channel?!) Regardless, if we are telling a specific story it’s
for a reason: and can give valuable insight into ourselves.
Others can find themselves completely absorbed in their story
and have no doubts that they lived before.
Genetic Memory:
The theory of genetic memory
suggests
that memories are passed on from generation to generation via
our genes. Carl Jung referred to this repository of memories as
collective unconscious: therefore, we may be tapping into
experiences from another life and time, which relate to our
current lives.
Everyone has their own views and
beliefs regarding Past Life Regression, but for those who are open
to the experience it can influence their present life and provide
therapeutic benefit. By 'reliving' the past life the repressed
emotion can be released and thus any associated physical or
emotional symptoms can be removed.
It is also the case that
past lives can act as inspiration for the present life: often times
it can be a point
in the right
direction regarding undiscovered skills or talents, or interests and
hobbies they’d never made time for. They can gain insight into what
they may be missing out on in this life by not making time for
pleasure or improving their well-being (emotional, physical and
mental).
